LEARNING DIFFICULTIES

We sometimes fail to realize that symbols mean or represent something else.
"A flag is a symbol of a country. A letter is a symbol for a sound."

How do learning difficulties develop?
When dealing with symbols, dyslexics can become confused. This confusion usually occurs when the meanings of these symbols cannot be imagined or pictured.
Frequently used symbols such as 'the', 'and', 'to', 'for', punctuation marks, letters, numbers and math symbols are some examples.

Disorientation can occur:
-When reading, an individual can look at a word such as "the", but read or say "and".
-When a reader may skip over a word or an entire sentence, without noticing that something was left out of their reading.
-When an individual thinks he is writing the numeral 6 but has written a 9 instead.
-When someone is speaking to the individual, and he hears something different from what the person actually said.

-To resolve confusion, the dyslexic’s natural unconscious tendency is to use their gift and view the symbols from different perspectives.Penrose stairs

In the three-dimensional world, this allows the individual to perceive many possibilities in solving a problem or completing a creative activity.

Unfortunately, when symbols are perceived three dimensionally in a variety of orientations, directions or positions, mistakes can occur. Common examples are the letters b, d, q, and p.

The individual becomes more and more confused, and over time, negative emotions develop such as avoidance and compensatory strategies. These negative consequences result in learning disabilities and other related problems.
